An Ohio mother who is accused of killing her oldest son and leaving his body in a Laurel hotel room was mum with a reporter before making her initial appearance in Laurel Municipal Court on Thursday.

Latina Oates, 33, is a danger to her other children and the general public, Assistant District Attorney Dennis Bisnette said as he asked the court to deny bond for her.

Judge Kyle Robertson agreed and ordered that Oates remain in the Jones County Adult Detention Center until Circuit Judge Dal Williamson can review her case.

Oates is accused of killing her 11-year-old son Josh and fleeing the Hampton Inn with her other two sons, ages 9 and 6. The boy's body was discovered in the hotel just before noon on Tuesday, and his mother and brothers were found in New Orleans the next morning. She was taken into custody, and his brothers were picked up by family members from Ohio.

Oates ignored a reporter’s questions as she was escorted into court.
