Frank Campbell was burning a brush pile behind an unoccupied brick home on 3 Carney Drive in the Calhoun Community when the fire got out of control and burned the structure.

Campbell said he had been cleaning up for the owner when he went across the street to his own home to take a break. When he came back out, the whole house was up in flames “and was too much for me to handle,” he said.

Volunteer firefighters from Calhoun, Soso and Glade responded to the call just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Dixie Electric also responded. No injuries were reported.
