On the weekend of September 22 and 23, the Ridgerunners Enduro Team of Mississippi held their annual Tiger Creek Enduro (an off-road motorcycle competition) in the Desoto National Forest. The event was “fondly and respectfully dedicated to the memory of Mr. Ray Melton” who was instrumental in helping to return the event to the Desoto National Forest back in 1994 and remained heavily involved with organizing the event for the remainder of his time on Earth.
On behalf of the Ridgerunners club members and all the participants who came from several states across the Southeast, I extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to the members of the Chickasawhay Ranger District whose support and involvement helped make the 2018 Tiger Creek Enduro a memorable and truly fun family-oriented recreational festivity; particularly Doye Lindsey and Eric Strickland, who spent two hot and humid days with us out amongst the flora and the fauna of the National Forest while we had all the fun.
In these times when so many kids (and so-called adults) are often involved in activities which do not include physical exercise, don’t promote family bonding or might even be of questionable legality, it is refreshing and inspiring to take part in an event of the caliber of this enduro. May the vision that Ray Melton had for this event continue for many generations to come.
