The Jones College Bobcats and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs have a colorful history on the gridiron.
Thursday’s 16-13 victory by No. 13 Jones over No. 12 MGCCC before a large crowd at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field fit right in with the series tradition.
The Bobcats are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the MACJC South Division, while MGCCC is 3-1 and 0-1. Jones now leads the series over the Bulldogs, 46-43- 3.
The Bobcats ran two fake field goals with one of them result- ing in a touchdown. Jones also returned a blocked extra point for two points. The Bobcats also had a fake punt, but it was unsuccessful.
Jones running back Kalyn Grandberry (Memphis) rushed 28 times for 171 yards.
Defensive end Chei Hill (Miami) had two sacks on MGCCC’s final series and was relentless all evening. Cornerback Jamar Richardson (Aliceville, Ala.) led a Jones secondary that held the high-powered Bulldog passing attack to 119 yards with only 11 completions in 33 attempts.
Jones returns home for a 7 p.m. game vs. Southwest Mississippi on Thursday. The game will air on www.jcjc.tvand WLAU-FM, 99.3, with Mark Easley and Luke Johnson on the call.
The Bulldogs will host Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
